Mind mapping for primary research questionnaires, polls and informal chats
Above displayed is my initial mind mapping
outlining some of the key concepts, ideas and questions I could include in some
of my primary research questionnaires, polls and informal conversations. Providing me with the ideal grounding to then refer
back to inspire and create these sources of primary research, I look to conduct in the near future. Intentionally
chosen to cover many different concepts, ideas and issues within my current
theme and project such as fast fashion, fashion industries impact on the environment,
shopping habits and ethics surrounding these, to mention a few (many from my initial research using 'True Cost' documentary).
I will plan to initially create a Google
Forms inspired by some of these questions and upload onto my Google classroom
page, for anyone in my course willing to respond and contribute towards.
From this I will collect any feedback I receive, reflect upon it and use to
further develop, inform and grow my project and how I approach areas within my
development. Hopefully, this will allow me to gain a much better understanding
of my community and societies opinions, views and thoughts on some key concepts
within my project. In turn, allowing me to reflect upon these to inform and inspire my project, its development and key concepts within it.
Depending on the amount of
information I receive through this initial stage I may then look to also do
polls and questionnaires on social media platforms, such as my general and art
Instagram account. Alternatively, I could look to speak to close family and
friends about some of these possible concepts and ideas displayed above.
Allowing me to further broaden and highlight areas that could inform my project
and work. As well as exposing and allowing myself to gain input from a much
broader range of society and people, who’s opinions and views may differ.
Helping me to therefore create much broader, rich and representative views around
some of these key concepts.
Displayed above is another mind map illustrating how I could interpret and use my primary research questionnaires, poles and conversations to create much more visual, artistic interpretation of my findings, reflections, opinions and views that may arise. Some of which I’ve previously used, but will continue to develop and integrate into my work, for example when creating artwork to display key statistics and shocking concepts from some of my secondary research from the documentary ‘True Cost’. Overall, allowing me to as an artist and designer display some of my more wordy, hard-hitting and lengthy ideas and a much more visual, palatable and artistic manner.
I will of course look to continue to consider the ethics, consent and considerate practice concepts around all of the primary research I may wish to conduct. For example this may be through introducing the option to be anonymous, or even skip any questions or areas they may wish to. Making sure therefore, as an artist and designer I am collecting, presenting and using any findings in a considerate, valid and ethical manner.
