Cornelia Parker artist research
Initial research into Parker's work, history,
inspirations and creative process. This allowing me to not just be inspired by
her work, but for me the way she generates ideas, visualises her ideas and
processes she uses in doing so.
Personally, I feel very inspired by the way she
goes about collecting and gathering inspiration, helping to generate her
initial ideas. As displayed in the short video, Parker often calls upon a
very organic, natural and resourceful manner of gathering inspiration and
creating concepts. She does this by using objects, nature, the environment and
anything around her to gather, source and inform idea generation. Often using
photography to document these concepts and ideas too. I too love taking
inspiration from the environment, nature and surroundings that I inhabit,
leaving me further inspired to continue developing this method and using
photography and quick sketches to document my process. This process will also
allow me to integrate deeper context, meaning and broader themes within my
project concept and ideas.
I could also look to be inspired by Parker's clever
and innovative use of materials, methods and techniques. Often not used for
their initial, 'intended' purpose. Commonly reconstructing and repurposed
materials within her work, again something I have begun to look to develop
within my project. For example, when using alternative materials and techniques
and often using and exhausting by-products of my creative process, allowing me
to create further development. As well as become a much more sustainable,
ethical and resourceful artist and designer. In turn allowing me to hit,
respond and develop key concepts and themes within my own work. Such as sustainability,
the effects of societies actions on the environment and possible actions we can
take to better the growing issue, to mention a few. Therefore, again providing
me with something that not only connect my work to Parker's, but could also be
a source of inspiration for me to continue developing this practice and method
of working throughout my project.
I can now look to use all these key concepts and
ideas to help inform my own work and development throughout this project. As
well as giving me a good grounding of information I can look back to source
inspiration from, or alternatively look to as a starting point to research
further into some of these concepts, ideas or just the incredible work of
Parker’s.
