Contextual awareness, critical thinking and planning

Image
Slides above from a presentation outlining and displaying my contextual awareness, critical thinking and planning. All of which I found very informative and helpful to highlight and expose areas that I need to consider and research further into. Therefore, progressing to be something I wish to continue to do throughout my project. Calling upon these concepts, questions and ideas to inform, enhance and develop my project work.    As smaller group we also went on to discuss our slides and details within them. This lead to a number of different outcomes and ideas, for example discussing how we could go about collecting primary research. Some of these included: . Having informal conversations with friends, society and family around us on topics within our projects to gain their insight, thoughts, experiences and opinions . Trying to gain insight through communication and interactions with possible experts from concepts within our theme and project . Conducting questionnaires, surv...

Current example of a weekly time management list I create to keep on track and up-to-date

Image
These particular screenshots from my notes on my phone are from the week leading up to a short weekend away. I chose to make and show this particular week as I was feeling nervous and apprehensive over staying on rack and to date, due to not being able to work over the weekend I normally do. However, by creating and updating this list in the days leading up to my holiday I was able to ensure I felt as prepared, under control and ready to tackle all the remaining workload when I retuned form my time away. This not only put my mind at rest, but allowed me the best chance of actually relaxing and detaching from my work while I was away. Also helping and enabling me to highlight areas I could tackle while away. For example, this lead me to downloading some of the shortlisted articles you can see above, allowing me to read and write notes from them in my time in the plane for example. This also led me to create this section below of elements I’ll need to then add to my bibliography on retur...

Colchester Bus Station visit, research, analysis and independent development

Image
As part of this week we split off into small groups, tasked to go and investigate, research and analyse different areas across our local Colchester town centre and community. My group were personally sent to the Bus Station area, assigned to assess the uses, restrictions, facilities and historical concepts behind our given location, as displayed in the mind map above.  This was a great way of gaining a much deeper understanding and context to the area, before going onto develop independently to produce outcomes such as observational drawings. In reflection, I will definitely look to call upon this technique of visiting a certain area within my project, where is suitable, allowing me to gain this deeper understanding, context and initiative. Enabling me to create much more informed and complex outcomes within my project.    Physically going to the locations also allowed us to practice and develop our primary research methods and approaches through observational drawing...

Natural dyeing experimentation and development

Image
This week’s natural dye workshop working with natural fibres alongside turmeric, red cabbage, hibiscus and carrot top dye baths and an assortment of dry materials. Helping to create a range of experimental swatches and discover more about this incredible, natural, sustainable process. We were initially split up into teams to create the baths, following the guidance booklet given to prepare and start the boiling process for the dyes, my team being in charge of the hibiscus bath. I personally really enjoyed the process of preparing the baths and directly observing the changes that were created through the process, as illustrated above. Particularly being amazed and inspired by the by-product of the boiling process, for example the red cabbage that had quite a significant physical change once boiled.   I think I was particularly intrigued by this particular process due to now feel that I could go onto use these photos from above to inspire possible patterns, colour schemes and abs...

Ethical practice planning and problem solving

Image
Some examples of my first few ethical practice planning and problem-solving exercises. Allowing me to indicate key areas within my project that I might need to consider further in term of ethical practice and coming across respectful and considerate. This could be through making sure all my information I engage with is valid, making sure I have consent from other to display any of their possible inputs, or even simple considering how my work is displayed and how this could affect an audience member. I could ensure this by putting into place techniques and mechanisms to alter and make sure that not only my final product is representative of my key themes and concepts, but one that will be received to audiences in a positive and ethical manner. I will definitely look to continue doing these throughout my project as they really helped me to identify and highlight areas to consider further, as well as begin to think of alterations I could make to solve these possible issues. Ensuring overa...

Reflecting on my own Creative Process and key stages and elements within this

Image
Exercise and task to help me acknowledge, reflect and identify key stages within my own creative practice. This may be through key methods, tools and techniques I choose to draw upon throughout my creative process to help me develop and generate concepts within my projects. One observation I made when completing this task and talking to other students about their creative processes, was that no one person’s create a process was identical to another’s. Something I find very interesting and valuable as it allows me to continue these conversations between others, to help inspire and discover new ways of progressing and generating ideas within projects. I was also very interested at how fluid and interchangeable the methods and techniques where throughout my creative process. Displaying for example, how valuable reflection and feedback, as well as research can be within all aspects and stages of my creative process.   Highlighting the key methods I use to best progress and reflect ...

Whether this was through the: mediums, techniques, concepts and ideas, or even colour schemes and choices of textural details. All of which, alongside all my deeper thinking, analysing and reflection from my worksheet, I can use to inspire future work, concepts and designs. Alternatively, I could look to further research and look into some of the artists, groups and theories displayed within the exhibitions I visited to help inspire future project research and analysis.   Overall, I really enjoyed my trip to The Firstsite as it allowed me to not only di...
