Observational drawings and practical work from self taken photo and artist research

Image
Final layered outcome experimenting with a multi media approach ranging from the use of tracing paper, fine liners, inks with a variety of application techniques to create texture and detail and charcoal. By approaching this piece with not only a experimental and line art, sketch style, but also with a variety of tools and application techniques (pipettes, dry old brushes for texture etc.) I have created a final outcome I feel is very inspirational and reflective of my self taken photo. Whether this is the the mark making, varied line thickness and tones within the vegetation or the contrasting rigid geometric silhouettes created from the buildings. In reflection I personally really love this Hume inspired technique of layering, slightly off center, to build and develop final outcomes as I feel it displays the progression and growth of a piece in a much more dynamic and interactive way. Also allowing me to now further work into and even develop each section separately in the future, wh...

Workshop using recycled materials and fruit to focusing on printing, pattern and mark making

Image
Rollers my group created using toilet roll tubes and packaging. I was overall amazed by the array of different results you could create and produce just alone from these simple tools. As well as the variety of different finishes you could create due to the paper or surface you chose to print on, or with the medium or media you chose to use for your printing. I could go onto use these in the future for adding texture and detail to my work or even creating backgrounds and patterns for my work to build upon.  A trial print page I created to explore and experiment with the different textures and effects I could create with my materials and tools. I also chose to create geometric segments and sections, similar to how Charles Sheeler divides some of his work, to allow different set areas for my different approaches. This concept can now be developed, worked into and utilized further in some of my future work. Overall granting me an amazing visual I can use as inspiration in the future fo...

Kinetic balance model making workshop

Image
Slow motion video displaying our model movement and balance created using the variety of scrap materials such as: dismantled hangers, clay, weights, string, cardboard, wooden rods etc. One of our main challenges as a team was to attach our individual hanging elements to our wooden rod body allowing out model to still rotate and balance. This was a case of trial and error and adjusting our placements. Overall I'm amazed at our final result and the overall energy and movement it has, similar like a child's mobile.  I can also go onto use this video or use of slow motion in future work, helping me to really capture the movement and life within any future work. I could also take inspiration from the materials I've used within this structure, contrast between geometric and abstract shapes or even the concepts of incorporation movement and balance within my work. Monoprints and prints created in response to viewing and watching our kinetic models move and the physical shapes and ...

Modelling and constructing structures from cardboard

This is a self taken Photo of some of the Old Towns backstreets and lanes in Chania, Crete, Greece. This town is actually where my mums side of the family are from and live, and through spending numerous summer holidays and time out there with my family I've grown very fond and close to the town. I chose this particular image to base my structure on as I really loved the geometric shapes of the buildings against the much more natural and fluid vegetation. I also liked the way it displayed the interlocking, almost 'maze like', layout of all the old lanes and how they all interlock together. A key element alongside the geometry and natural shapes I wanted to display within my construction. My initial base structure to display the interlocking geometric buildings and lanes. Allowing me to then build upon a stable and strong structure and add my more fluid natural elements on top.  I personally really liked how I managed to create this 'interlocking' 'maze like'...

Experimenting in Procreate by tracing self taken photos

Image
Initial tracing fr om self taken photo using a variety of brush strokes and effects to create a sketched and illustrative effect. I actually really enjoy the simplicity this monochrome design has, allowing the texture and sketched stokes to really stand out. I can also go back to this layer in the future and develop and add to the effects and drawing I've created.   Process of beginning to add colour to key areas with my image, again using a variety of effect and brush stokes within Procreate. Here I really enjoyed used the blending and smudging effect to help create more seamless blends and a variety of tone. Next I went onto use a variety of brush stokes, effects and sizes to add finer details and textures to my work. At this stage I deliberately chose to only add colour to some key aspect of my work as I wanted the overall work to be fairly stylized, almost giving of a children's book illustration feel.  Above is my final outcome, bringing together both my initial photo tr...
